This is the fourth building in which Caerphilly Methodists have worshipped since their beginnings in the middle of the eighteenth century. The Rev’d. John Wesley visited the town on a number of occasions and a number of groups gathered to worship in various homes and farms, before coming together to build a church some time before 1816. In addition to the morning service at 10:30 on Sunday mornings and occasional evening services at 6:00 PM, other regular activities at
Wesley are as follows:
Toddlers
Meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings during term-time between 10:00am and 12noon. The group welcomes babies and toddlers with their carers – fathers, grandparents, nannies and child-minders as well as mothers. The toddler group provides a warm and safe environment for adults and toddlers to socialise and play together, mindful that the children remain their ‘mothers’ responsibility at all times.
The Sunday Club
Is available to all children between 3 and 17. The Primary department caters for the under 7’s, Junior’s 7 – 11, Senior’s 11 –13 and Young People’s 14 – 17. Sunday School meets during morning worship beginning at 10:30 am.
Youth Club / Shell
For those aged between 11 and 18 meets on Friday night evenings between 7:00PM & 10:00PM.
For thoes aged between 6 and 11 meets on Wednessday evenings between 6:00PM & 7:15PM.
In these three hours the young people not only have the opportunity to play games but each week there is a set programme which involves anything from a talk (with animals) from the snake man to killer cricket or a games. At the end of the night there is time for an epilogue with cups of tea, or squash, and a little moment with God.
Women’s Fellowship
Is an afternoon meeting for ladies ‘of a certain age’. The aim of this group is to encourage a depth of friendship and fellowship among women. Although affiliated to the Network of the Methodist church, the members come from other churches and none. Speakers are invited on various topics from travel to history, books, fashion, home safety, as well as music and devotional topics. The meetings held on Tuesdays begin at 2:30 pm with short devotions and end with a cuppa and a chat.
Ladies Link
Wednesday at 8pm. in term time. A friendly group for every age meet for food, conversation and sharing of fellowship. Also enjoy outings and invite speakers on a wide range of topics.
Boy’s Brigade
Is open to boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 18, with leadership possibilities for those who would wish to remain beyond eighteen. The Anchors, for 6–8 year olds meet on a Tuesday evening between 6 and 7:30 pm, offering games, songs, crafts and stories expressly designed for their age, providing an opportunity for youngsters to work and play together. The Juniors, for 8-11 year olds meet on Thursday evening between 6:30 and 8 pm. It has a varied programme including physical activities, music, craft, games and competitions. Some of which will count to the earning of badges. Company Section meets on a Thursday evening between 7:30 and 9:30 pm.
