Taffs Well United Church formed when two chapels in the village (Baptist and Methodist) successfully joined together. Sunday worship is held weekly at 10.30am. The Church is readily available for weddings, christenings and funerals and is very much a part of the village and used by the local community.
Taffs Well are as follows:
Coffee Morning/Pensioners
Every Thursday during term time a thriving coffee morning is held in the Church at 10.30am – 12 noon. A dedicated group of people ensure that this is very successful. Homemade cakes/jams/pickles are sold and all the money raised is given for Church funds. The local pensioners group hold their meeting at Church on Wednesday afternoon.
Sunday School
We have a small group of children who attend on a Sunday (up to 7 children age 2 – 13). At present Sunday School is held twice a month (2nd & 4th Sunday of the month). We also hold All Age Worship once a month where refreshments after the service.
Pilots Children’s Club (age 5 – 11yrs)
Pilots is held twice a month on a Wednesday from 6.30 – 7.45pm. We have 3 main leaders and a number of other Church members who help out on the night. This is a lively group, and many of the children who attend are from the local community, most of them attend the local primary school Ffynnon Taf. We maintain good links with the local school and the Minister attends the school regularly to offer assemblies. This group attracts up to 30 children on a Wednesday. We link our cooking, crafts and ‘lively singing’, to a story from the Bible. A group of teenagers still regularly attend Pilots, and have grown up with us. Ideally, in the future it would be good to be able to offer something separate for this age group.
Light Party/Easter Activity Day/Messy Church/Fundraising
We occasionally hold activity days similar to messy church. Last October 31st we held our first ‘Light Party’ which was very successful and a lot of fun for children and adults!! We have also held Easter Activity Days for children where we have re told the Easter Story through craft/drama/puppets. We have also held a ‘Pilots Got Talent/Puppet night’ where the children choose a talent to perform. Fundraising events are held when necessary. In December we held a fundraising day to raise money to buy a projector for Pilots, and even though it was a bitterly cold icy day we still managed to raise over £500!
Flame Worship Group
Flame Is a small group of people from various churches in the Cardiff Circuit, two of its members are from Taffs Well United Church. The main focus of ‘Flame’ is an all-age lively service. The main aim is to present worship in an alternative way and have fun while worshipping God. We offer live music, drama sketches/Bible stories and Puppets. Flame can also provide a quieter more meditative service if requested.
