Last weekend was the annual Flower Festival in Caerphilly
and what a great weekend it was! Despite a rainy day on
Saturday plenty of people came along.
And again on Sunday –
* to enjoy the floral displays created to illustrate the
* theme of ‘Industry meets Nature’.
* It seemed to me a really difficult theme this year but
* the team at Wesley pulled out all the creative stops
* and produced beautiful and informative displays!
In the evening, one of our young people, Leanne Talbot,
returning from her first year at university, organised a
sell-out fund raising concert.
Leanne has a brilliant singing voice as well as being an
accomplished musician and she, along with the rest of the
orchestra and guest singer – David Gibbon entertained us
with music and songs from the Shows.
We are blessed with so much talent at Wesley.

We must not forget that for talents to develop, a lot of hard work is put in.
There is a need for constant practice.
There is, in the case of an orchestra, time spent working together,
getting the timing right, being sensitive to the other musicians so as not to drown anyone out
but to enable even the humblest of instruments to be heard in harmony with the rest –
and of course a need to watch the one conducting or leading.
In our community as a church we have much to learn from all this.
A church or a community doesn’t just happen without effort.
We need to use the talents we have together
and use them sensitively and creatively
as we keep our hearts and minds on the one we follow,
Jesus our Lord.
